Naturopathic Doctors are trained at four-year, post-graduate naturopathic medical school. The comprehensive medical training includes studies in the basic and clinical medical sciences (physical diagnoses, diagnostic imaging, pharmacology, etc), as well as natural treatment modalities (clinical nutrition, physical medicine, homeopathic medicine, botanical medicine, psychology, and counseling). Naturopathic doctors are required to do a clinical internship, as well as pass national basic science and clinical board exams to be licensed.
Licensed acupuncturists receive 3-4 year masters level training in the comprehensive study of traditional Chinese medicine, herbal medicine, pathology, biochemistry, Western medicine, nutrition, diagnosis and treatments (including acupuncture, cupping, moxibustion, etc). Training includes both didactic coursework and clinical externships. Acupuncturists are required to pass national and/or state boards to be licensed.
Dr. Ann Marie Nguyen is a licensed Naturopathic Doctor and Acupuncturist. At Bastyr University, she was one of seven doctoral candidates that pursued a doctorate in Naturopathic Medicine, a masters in Acupuncture and Oriental Medicine, as well as a certificate in Chinese Herbal Medicine.
